The sun is an incredible thing, don't you think? Like, God made this beautiful ball of fire to sit in our sky and light up our world, while also keeping us warm, healthy, and alive!
Not only is the sun super healthy for your skin and body by giving you vitamin D (which helps with skin cell regeneration, bone health, and immunity), but it is also extremely good for your mood because it boosts serotonin. Through all of these things it regulates your circadian rhythm, which is your internal clock that controls your mood and sleep.
Sunlight is something that we often overlook, and it is important that we acknowledge the sun for both it's beauty and necessity. The sun also sets the tone for slowing down, noticing the little things, and returning to natural rhythms.
First thing in the morning, there are so many benefits of early sunlight exposure. Watching the sunrise or catching some early morning sun signals to the body to wake up, focus, and reset.
Then, catching midday sun helps your body retain energy, strength, and sustenance. Although this is sometimes not possible, even just catching a glimpse of the sun helps boost your mood and energy. For example, I work in an office with no windows but once in a while when I go to use the washroom I will look outside for a bit to get some sunlight in my eyes!
Then, in the evening the sun signals to your body that it is time to wind down, relax, and rest. God also loves to paint the sky with the most beautiful colors in the evenings as well as the mornings. Which can be the most amazing reminder that God cares about all the little details, and He is the creator!
How often do we just rush past sunrises and sunsets, without giving them a second thought. Instead when we choose to pause and observe God's marvelous painting in the sky, suddenly the beauty becomes healing and not just decoration.
"The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork."
-Psalm 19:1
"From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised."
-Psalm 113:3
